South Africa is located at the southern-most tip of the African continent and is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean on the West and the Indian Ocean on the South and East. Its immediate neighbours are Namibia in the Northwest, Zimbabwe and Botswana in the North, and Mozambique and Swaziland in the Northeast. South Africa has a multiethnic popula-tion of almost 53 million people and 11 official languages. The popula-tion is largely African, constituting 79.4% followed by White 9.2%, Col-oured 8.8% and Indian 2.6%.

KwaZulu-Natal enjoys a year round sub-tropical climate, and has a pop-ulation of around 10 million. The province is the second largest in the country and is considered mainly rural, with the highest burden of dis-ease in the country, most notably TB, HIV and AIDS.
